Mike Miles tied a career-high with 28 points to lead TCU to a 76-62 win over Utah Wednesday night in the Simmons Bank Showdown at Dickies Arena.
Miles was 9-of-17 from the field, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range. The sophomore guard from Highland Hills, Texas added a team-high eight rebounds and had four assists in 37 minutes of play. Miles' stat line of 28, eight and four had not been done by a TCU player since Ryan Carroll had that exact line 21 seasons ago.
Joining Miles in double figures were JaKobe Coles and Emanuel Miller with 10 points each.
Utah (6-3) jumped out to an 11-5 lead. The Horned Frogs (7-1) took their first lead, 16-15 with 10:36 to play, off a jumper from Miller. TCU never trailed after that. With the score tied 22-22, TCU scored 11 unanswered points and began to pull away from Utah. The Horned Frogs led 36-27 at the half behind 15 points from Miles.
TCU slowly expanded its lead in the second half as Coles scored all 10 points in the second. The closest the Utes got was six points, 38-32, a minute into the second half.
TCU held Utah to 33.9 percent shooting from the field and outrebounded the Utes 43-33. The Horned Frogs finished the game with 18 assists and a season-low six turnovers.
TCU will next play against Texas A&M in The Battleground 2k21 at Toyota Center in Houston on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. on SEC Network.
