Mike Miles Jr. scored a game-high 22 points to lead TCU to a 77-61 win over McNeese State to open the 2021-22 season Thursday at Schollmaier Arena.

It was Miles' fifth-career game with at least 20 points. The Preseason All-Big 12 Conference guard was 3-of-6 from 3-point range and made a career-high 11 free throws on 13 attempts.  Emanuel Miller recorded 12 points and 13 rebounds. It was his ninth career double-double, but first as a Horned Frog. 
 
TCU (1-0) dominated the boards, outrebounding McNeese State (0-2), 57-34, and held the Cowboys to 34 percent shooting from the field. 
 
After Eddie Lampkin Jr. scored the first points of the season for the Frogs, McNeese took a 17-14 lead midway through the first half. TCU then went on a 20-5 run which included nine points by Miles. TCU dominated the boards in the first half, outrebounding the Cowboys 27-14. Miles led all scorers at the half with 12 points.
 
TCU went on a 7-0 run midway through the second half to extend its lead to 16. The Frogs biggest lead was 21 with 3:30 to play.  
 
The Horned Frogs will next play host to Southern Miss on Monday at 7 p.m. The game will be shown on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
 
Team Notes

  • TCU outrebounded McNeese 57-34. The Frogs improved to 82-26 under Dixon when out rebounding opponents. 
  • TCU outrebounded McNeese by 23, the first time since Dec. 18, 2017 vs. Texas Southern that the Frogs outrebounded an opponent by 20 or more. 
  • TCU's 57 rebounds were the most since recording 59 against Rice on Nov. 13, 2007. 
  • The Frogs held the Cowboys to 34.8% from the field.
  • TCU went 16-18 (88.9%) from the free throw line in the second half.
  • Under Dixon, TCU improved to 60-10 against nonconference teams and 43-4 against nonconference opponents in Schollmaier Arena.
  • Since 2014-15, the Frogs have gone 38-4 in the month of November.
  • Under Dixon (since 2016-17), TCU has gone 52-9 in November and December.

  • Dixon improved to 19-0 in season openers.
  • Dixon improved to 97-71 at TCU and is three victories away from becoming the fifth head coach with 100 wins at TCU.
  • Mike Miles scored 22 points. It was his 19th career game scoring in double figures. It was his fifth-career game scoring at least 20 points.
  • Miles made 11 free throws which is the first time a TCU player recorded 10 or more free throws since RJ Nembhard had 11 against Iowa State on Feb. 9, 2021.
  • Miles was the Frogs leading scorer. He led TCU eight times last season as a freshman. 
  • Emanuel Miller recorded 12 points and 13 rebounds. It was his 9th career double-double.
