A TCU slugger and a pair of Texas Tech pitchers were honored with Big Baseball Awards in Week 9.

TCU’s Hunter Wolfe earned Big 12 Baseball Player of the Week, while Texas Tech’s Mason Montgomery was named Pitcher of the Week. Red Raider Patrick Monteverde earned Newcomer of the Week distinction. A five-person media panel selects the honorees.

Wolfe hit .500 (7-of-14) in the sweep of Oklahoma State. The senior had two hits and scored two runs in the series opener against the Cowboys. He was instrumental in TCU's walk-off win Saturday, as he tied the game twice with hits, made it a 2-2 game with a double in the fourth and scored to make it a 3-2 game. In the sixth, he doubled and scored to bring the Frogs within one, 6-5. An inning later, Wolfe hit a game-tying two-run home run in the seventh and he capped the day with a walk-off single in the ninth. In Sunday's win, he registered an RBI single in the decisive eighth inning.

Montgomery notched a career-high 12 strikeouts in the rubber game at West Virginia. The 12 strikeouts matched the most by any pitcher in a Big 12 game this season. The lefty ranked second for the week in best opponent's batting average at .091, trailing only teammate Patrick Monteverde. He was the first Red Raider with 12 strikeouts in a Big 12 game since 2010.

Monteverde pitched seven shutout innings and allowed only two hits to earn the series-opening win at West Virginia. The senior had a league-best opponent's batting average for the week of .087. The southpaw struck out at least seven hitters for the fifth time this season. His 6-1 record is tied for a Big 12 best.

This is the second accolade for Monteverde this season, while Montgomery and Wolfe are first-time recipients.
