Arizona State’s Matt King (player and newcomer) and Kansas’ Dominic Voegele (pitcher) took home the Big 12 Baseball weekly awards for games ending April 27.

King finished the week with 12 RBIs in four games against Grand Canyon and BYU. The senior infielder went 10-for-16 for a .625 batting average as he recorded multiple hits and RBIs in each of the four games. King tallied four RBIs against Grand Canyon and again in the series finale against BYU. In Saturday’s win over the Cougars, he launched two home runs in the first two innings to aid in the Sun Devils’ 16-6 run-rule victory. King is the third player this season to garner two Conference awards in the same week.

Voegele pitched a career-high 8.2 scoreless innings and was one out away from a complete game shutout in KU’s series-opening win over Utah. The Jayhawks’ right-handed pitcher retired 12 consecutive batters that spanned from the fifth to the ninth inning as he finished with five strikeouts while surrendering only six hits. The 2-0 win over the Utes was the second consecutive shutout of the week for KU after holding Nebraska scoreless in a 4-0 win on Tuesday night. The shutouts marked the first time in program history that Kansas held Division I opponents scoreless in consecutive road games.
