The Tulane baseball team (3-0) ran the winning streak to three with a 10-7 victory over Omaha (0-3) on Sunday behind the strong starting pitching performance from Trey Cehajic and an eight-run third inning to sweep the opening series on Sunday at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Cehajic (1-0) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before exiting. He ended his afternoon allowing three runs in five innings with three hits allowed and four strikeouts in his first career start at Tulane. Will Clements had an effective performance out of the bullpen with three scoreless innings and three strikeouts.
Connor Rasmussen led the offense with three hits and runs scored. Matthias Haas continued his hot start to the season with two hits and two RBIs. Jason Wachs had a pair of hits and drew a pair of walks. Kaikea Harrison totaled two hits plus an RBI and a run scored. Tanner Chun recorded two RBIs plus a run scored and a walk.
The Tulane offense exploded for eight runs on five hits in the third inning. In the frame, Gavin Schulz, Haas, Jackson Linn, Harrison, Wachs all had an RBI while Chun totaled a pair on his triple.
The program added a run in the sixth inning on an RBI single from Haas and finished the scoring in the eighth inning when Brock Slaton was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
The loss went to Omaha's CJ Hood (0-1), who started the game for the Mavericks, and was tagged for two runs in his two innings of work. Landon Mueller surrendered four runs on four hits in his third of an inning thrown.
Next, Tulane welcomes in UNO for the first game of the Pelican Cup on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 6:30 p.m. The program is also slated to hit the road for the first time this season next week with a trip to Hammond to take on Southeastern on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 6 p.m. before returning home to host Loyola Marymount for a weekend series from Feb. 23-25 starting with first pitch on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
