The Wichita Sports Commission announced the semifinalists for the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award and Duke senior Alex Stone was one of the 16 semifinalists.
Stone, a 6-foot-5 catcher from Andover, N.J., was tabbed to the Preseason Bobby Bragan National Collegiate Slugger Award List and earned All-ACC second team honors behind the dish. The senior has produced a .327 average at the plate, starting all 54 games this season. He has produced 72 hits, 18 doubles, 12 home runs and 57 RBI. He adds a .573 slugging percentage and .382 on base percentage this year. Stone also moved into 23rd all-time on the career doubles list with 41 and third in career home runs, four from tying the program record with 39.
The finalists for the Buster Posey Award will be announced June 6. Those three catchers will be invited to Wichita, Kan., with the winner being announced June 26 during the Greater Wichita Sports Banquet and Buster Posey Award presentation.
