Oklahoma State’s Carson Benge (player), Oklahoma’s Braden Davis (pitcher) and West Virginia’s Kyle West (newcomer) captured Big 12 baseball weekly awards for the 11th week of the season.
Benge hit at least one home run in all four of the Cowboys’ blowout wins, finishing the week with five longballs and a .471 batting average. The righty from Yukon, Oklahoma was the starting pitcher in the Pokes’ series opener against BYU, scattering three hits over five innings while allowing one run and picking up the victory. The sophomore helped his own cause with two home runs and a double in the game, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and four runs scored. The two-way player majoring in business had four RBIs in the midweek game against 2023 College World Series participant Oral Roberts. He had a 2.042 OPS and 1.80 ERA to win his second career weekly award, after collecting Newcomer of the Week honors in 2023.
Davis allowed just a single run over 6.0 innings in Friday night’s win over Texas. The lefty from Keller, Texas struck out nine while allowing just three walks, and was the winning pitcher in the eventual 9-4 Sooner win. The construction management major scattered seven hits and closed his outing by striking out the side in the sixth. It marked the junior’s third consecutive start with a victory and his first career Big 12 weekly award.
West was 6-for-10 as the Mountaineers swept Baylor, scoring multiple runs and driving in at least one in all three games. In the middle game of the series, the designated hitter from Hedgesville, West Virginia went 2-for-2 with a double, a home run, a steal and three runs scored. The junior integrated studies major scored eight runs, had a pair of home runs and a 2.092 OPS to win his first Big 12 weekly award.
