Junior Hunter Owen was named SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference office.
Owen tossed a complete-game shutout against defending champion No. 3 Ole Miss on Friday night at Hawkins Field, helping the Commodores clinch the series against the Rebels with an 8-0 win.
Owen struck out a career-high 11 batters and needed only 96 pitches to finish Vanderbilt’s first nine-inning, complete-game shutout since Jack Leiter’s no-hitter vs. South Carolina in 2021.
The lefty walked one and gave up just two hits. He retired the final 23 batters he faced in the contest.
Vanderbilt (16-5, 3-0 SEC) returns to First Horizon Park to face Lipscomb at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the second of two All 4 Lou Showdown contests. The Commodores defeated Belmont last Tuesday at First Horizon Park. Proceeds from both games benefit the Live Like Lou Foundation. Tuesday’s contest will air on SECN+.
