The University of South Florida Bulls wrap up a five-game road stretch against in-state foes on Wednesday, March 1 at No. 16 Florida State. The Bulls and Seminoles will meet for the first time since February 18, 2020.
Florida State is fresh off a series win at No. 8 TCU which propelled the Seminoles into the Top 25 rankings for the first time this season. Wednesday will mark the sixth game already this season that South Florida has played against a Top 25 opponent. The Bulls are 2-3 in those matchups.
After a thrilling 10-9 comeback victory at No. 7 Florida last Wednesday, the Bulls won the opener of their weekend series at FAU, 5-1. The Owls responded by taking the final two games of the series, 8-7 (11 innings) and 8-6, respectively. USF erased 4-0 deficits in each of those losses only to see FAU answer back for the series win.
Jackson Mayo homered in back-to-back games at Florida and in the opener at FAU. His three-run blast in the ninth inning at Gainesville tied the game. Daniel Cantu homered in each of the final two games at FAU.
Mayo is batting .375 (6-for-14) with three homers and nine RBI over his last five games. Cantu batted .400 (6-for-15) with a pair of homers and four RBI at FAU. John Montes batted .500 (6-for-12) in the FAU series with a double and two RBI.
