UConn's Reggie Crawford was selected in the First Round (30th pick) of the 2022 MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants on Sunday night from Los Angeles.
Crawford becomes the fifth Husky under head coach Jim Penders to be selected in the First Round of the draft and is the eighth UConn player all-time to be picked in First Round.
In 64 career games with the Huskies, Crawford hit .309 with 18 doubles, 14 home runs and and 78 runs batted in. The Frackville, Pa. native was a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American in 2020 and was a Second Team All-BIG EAST member in 2021 while leading the conference in home runs (13) and runs batted in (62). His 62 runs batted in were fourth most in a single-season for a Husky. Crawford appeared in seven games on the mound for the Huskies and went 1-1 with one save and a 2.35 ERA. In 7.2 innings he struck out 17. Crawford competed in the Cape Cod League and USA Collegiate National team while with UConn.
Crawford joins John Russell (2017, 16th Round) and Pat Ruotolo (2016, 27th Round) in the San Francisco organization. Crawford is first Husky to be drafted in the first round since Anthony Kay in 2016 by the New York Mets. Crawford becomes the 103rd UConn player to be selected in the MLB Draft.
Crawford was drafted in the 37th round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Kansas City Royals out of high school.
The MLB Draft continues with rounds 3-10 on Monday and rounds 11-20 on Tuesday.
