Wake Forest baseball's Nick Kurtz (First Team) and Tommy Hawke (Second Team) were named Freshman All-Americans by Baseball America.

Kurtz garners his fourth Freshman All-America honor (Perfect Game, NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball), while Hawke reels in the first Freshman All-America accolade of his career.

Overall, Hawke is now the 10th Demon Deacon since 2010 to garner Freshman All-America honors.

The rookie duo also received conference recognition as Kurtz and Hawke were named ACC All-Freshman Team honorees. Kurtz was also named a Third Team All-ACC and ABCA/Rawlings Second Team All-Region selection.

Kurtz posted one of the best freshman seasons in program history, tying the freshman runs scored record (65) and finishing in the top 10 in home runs (tied for second), walks (second), RBIs (tied for second), hits (ninth) and doubles (tied for ninth) by a Demon Deacon rookie.

Overall, the first baseman finished the 2022 season second on the team with 48 walks, a .637 slugging percentage and a .471 on-base percentage. Kurtz's 15 home runs ranked third on the squad, while registering the fourth-highest batting average (.338).

The Lancaster, Pa. native led the ACC with a .422 batting average and .548 on-base percentage in conference play and posted the second-highest OPS (1.254) and fifth-highest slugging percentage (.706) against ACC opponents.

Kurtz recorded a historic day at the plate in Wake Forest's 27-7 victory against Georgia Tech, becoming the first Wake Forest batter since 2005 to record six hits in a game while also driving in a career-high six runs. Kurtz's six hits are the second-most in program history and the most by a Wake Forest freshman ever.

The Lancaster, Pa. native was instrumental in Wake Forest's first series sweep in Raleigh on May 19-May 21, finishing 7-of-9 with two home runs, six RBIs and five runs scored in the final three games of the 2022 regular season.
