The University of Toledo baseball program officially released its 2022 schedule to the delight of Rockets fans.
The Rockets' season begins on Friday, Feb. 18 at Belmont, the first of 56 games the team will play this year. The home opener at Scott Park is scheduled for Friday, March 25 against Miami, the beginning of a four-game series against the RedHawks.
After a two-year hiatus, the Mid-American Conference Tournament (May 25-28) will return in 2022, with the top four teams advancing to the tournament, which will be hosted by the top overall seed.
"We are very excited for the 2022 season," head coach Rob Reinstetle said. "I'm equally excited that the Mid-American Conference has brought back the MAC Tournament. A lot of factors go into scheduling, as we try to continue to keep the program moving forward. We feel like we are playing a very challenging non-conference schedule. We want our guys to play quality competition to help prepare us for the talented teams in the MAC and give us the best chance possible to be successful in the postseason."
Following the season-opening series at Belmont (Feb. 18-20), and Toledo will head to North Carolina the next two weekends to face High Point (Feb. 25-27) and Elon (March 4-6), respectively.
MAC play begins Friday, March 11 with a four-game series at Akron. The Rockets' other road conference weekends include trips to Western Michigan (March 18-20), Ohio (April 8-10), Bowling Green (May 6-8), and Central Michigan (May 19-21). Toledo's home conference opponents are Mami (March 25-27), Ball State (April 1-3), Kent State (April 15-17), Eastern Michigan (April 22-24), and Northern Illinois (May 13-15).
The Rockets also have a midweek game scheduled at Ohio State on Wednesday, March 30 and a home weekend series against Austin Peay. UT will welcome the Governors to Scott Park from April 30-May 2.
Earlier in the week, Toledo announced it will play Bowling Green at Fifth Third Field on Tuesday, May 10. The Rockets and Falcons played Downtown Toledo in 2021 in a game the Midnight Blue and Gold won, 5-2.
