The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s men’s and women’s outdoor track & field honors, for the week ending Sunday, April 4.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Aaron Bienenfeld * Sr. * Cincinnati
Bienenfeld raced to a runner-up showing in the 10,000-meter run at the Sound Running College Invite on April 2 in Riverside, California. He crossed the finish line with a time of 28:10.95 for the top time in The American this season and the fifth-fastest time in the nation as of April 7.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Michael Bryan * Jr. * Wichita State
Bryan enjoyed a standout showing in the hammer throw during the Hayward Premiere that took place April 2-3 in Eugene, Oregon. Bryan won the event with a top throw of 68.54m (224-10) to log the second-best throw in the conference and seventh-best attempt in the NCAA as of April 7.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Rebekah Topham * Sr. * Wichita State
Topham secured a fourth-place result in the 3,000-meter steeplechase while competing at the Hayward Premiere on April 2-3 in Eugene, Oregon. Topham crossed the finish line with a time of 10:04.38 to post the fastest time in The American and seventh overall showing nationally as of April 7.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Samantha Lenton * Jr. * Memphis
Lenton enjoyed a dominant showing in the discus during the Joey Haines Invite that took place on April 2-3 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Lenton won with a top throw of 57.20m (187-8) on her second attempt to register the best mark in The American and eighth in the NCAA as of April 7.
