Texas swept the men’s and women’s Big 12 team titles after three days of competition at the 2024 Big 12 Track and Field Championship at Clyde Hart Stadium & Field. The Longhorn men captured their 11th overall title while the women garnered their fifth straight for a total of 15.

The UT women tallied 101 points on Saturday to win the title with 150 points. BYU placed second with 98 points while Texas Tech finished third with 96.5 points. In their win, the Longhorn men registered 134 points after three days of competition. Texas Tech earned 115 points to record a second-place finish and Iowa State wrapped up the top 3 spots with 90 points.
 
Baylor’s Molly Haywood claimed the program’s first gold of the day in the women’s pole vault with a clearance of 4.441 meters before the women’s 4x100 relay team garnered the Big 12 title with a facility record time of 43.16 seconds.
 
On the men’s side, Demar Francis brought the 400-meter title back to the Bears. He marked a personal best time of 45.44 during the victory. Nathaniel Ezekiel claimed his second 400-meter hurdles title in two seasons with a Big 12 record of 28 seconds flat. The time was the No. 2 fastest this season, a stadium best, a career-best and marked an Olympic qualifying standard.
 
Kansas’ Devin Loudermilk earned his second men’s high jump title this season after retiring at 2.24 meters, the NCAA’s fourth-best clearance of the season. His teammate Dimitrios Pavlidis became the first Jayhawk to win the men’s discus throw since 2017 with a launch of 61.52 meters while Anthony Meacham took the men’s pole vault with a clearance of 5.40 meters.
 
Houston set a facility record of 38.44 seconds to win the men’s 4x100. De’Vion Wilson claimed his second Big 12 title this season in the 110-meter hurdles with his season-best time of 13.35 seconds.
 
After running the anchor leg in the winning men’s 4x100 relay, Houston’s Shaun Maswanganyi sprinted to his second and third Big 12 titles on Saturday, winning the 100-meter dash (10.11) and the 200-meter dash (20.10). He was later announced as the men’s High Point Scorer with 22.5 points.

Iowa State’s Ezekiel Rop led a trio of Cyclones in the men’s 1,500 meters as he crossed the line in 3:40.61. His teammates Peter Smith and Devan Kipyego finished second and third, respectively.
 
The Texas Tech women claimed four Big 12 titles on Saturday. Juliet Cherubet kicked it into gear in the final seconds to win the TTU’s first women’s Big 12 1,500-meter title since 2008 with a time of 4:09.33. During the performance, the freshman outpaced the previous 24-year-old Big 12 record of 4:12.15.
 
Cherubet would share the Women’s High Point Scorer Award with TCU’s Iyana Gray after scoring 18 points.
 
Rosemary Chukwuma won the women’s 100-meter dash with a mark of 11.12 seconds, registering as the sixth-fastest time this season. TTU freshman Temitope Adeshina captured her second women’s high jump Big 12 title of the year with a season-best mark of 1.90 meters. Zoe Burleson rounded out events won by the Red Raider women on Saturday with the program’s second straight gold medal in the discus throw. She won her first Big 12 title with a launch of 57.65 meters.
 
UCF’s Rayniah Jones was victorious in the women’s 100 hurdles, running the event in 12.78 seconds to give the Knights 10 points.
 
Ziyah Holman, who transferred to Texas at the beginning of the 2024 Track and Field season, won her first Big 12 title after she punched a season-best 50.99 in the women’s 400-meter run.
 
The Longhorn women would claim other Big 12 titles Saturday in the triple jump, the 200-meter and the 400-meter hurdles. Ackelia Smith leaped a nation-leading 13.92 meters to win her second consecutive title in the event while Dajanea Oakley claimed the 200 meters with a time of 22.60 seconds. Akala Garrett set a Big 12 and a stadium record time of 54.73 seconds to win the 400-meter hurdles.
 
UT’s Yusuf Bizimana collected his fourth men’s 800-meter Big 12 title following a 1:46.07 performance.
 
Oklahoma State’s Gabija Galvydyte defended her title in the women’s 800-meter, clipping her winning time last year by two seconds to set a Big 12 record at 2:00.42. The Cowboys’ Alex Maier claimed another 5,000-meter Big 12 title (2022) with the Championship’s fastest mark of 13:36.19. Molly Born became the second Cowgirl in history to win the women’s 5,000-meter with a mark of 16:13.77.
 
Oklahoma’s BJ Green swept the Big 12 triple jump this season, winning the outdoor title with a 16.52-meter jump. The Texas Tech men claimed the men’s 4x400 relay with a time of 3:03.09 while Houston captured the women’s title running the event in 3:29.18. Both teams also garnered the indoor title.
 
Big 12 teams will now prepare for the 2024 DI Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship. Student-Athletes that qualify for the first round will be announced on Thursday, May 16.
