Oklahoma State’s Malcolm Rodriguez (co-defensive) and LD Brown (special teams) joined TCU’s Zach Evans (offense), Baylor’s JT Woods (co-defense) and K-State’s Felix Anudike-Uzomah (newcomer) as Big 12 football players of the week. Rodriguez picked up his third career honor while the others are first-time recipients.
Evans set a career-high with 190 yards rushing, becoming the first Horned Frog to eclipse 190 yards or more since Sewo Olonilua's 194 yards in the 2018 Cheez-It Bowl. He scored on a 51-yard touchdown run just before the end of the first half, which changed the momentum of the game and helped TCU erase a pair of 12-point deficits to pull out the 34-32 win over California. The sophomore had a rushing touchdown for the fourth straight game, the first TCU player to do so since Olonilua's four straight in 2019. Evans also had a 14-yard reception giving him 200-plus all-purpose yards on the afternoon.
Woods had three tackles and a 97-yard fumble return for a touchdown in Baylor's 66-7 win over Texas Southern. The senior safety’s return was the longest fumble return in school history, and it was his second defensive touchdown in as many weeks. Woods helped this Baylor team become the first Bears squad since 2013 with defensive touchdowns in back-to-back weeks.
Rodriguez led all players in the game in tackles for the second-straight week, recording 13 total in OSU's 28-23 win over Tulsa. Eight of his tackles were solo stops. He made tackles on five of Tulsa's first eight plays of the game. The senior LB ranks No. 1 among FBS players with an average of 14 tackles per game this season and is also the national leader with 8.5 solo tackles per game.
Brown's 98-yard kickoff return against Tulsa tied for the seventh-longest in school history, and was the longest since Tyreek Hill returned one 99 yards for a score at Kansas in 2014. The play came with OSU trailing by three points in the fourth quarter and put the Cowboys on top for good. Brown led all players in the game with 141 all-purpose yards. The senior RB also carried the ball nine times and made a catch.
Anudike-Uzomah recorded 3.0 sacks against Southern Illinois, the most in a game this season in the Big 12. K-State’s defense held SIU to under 300 total yards in the win and also forced two fumbles.
