Frustrating and somewhat confusing news for Oklahoma Sooner fans waking up to the news on Monday that Cale Gundy, an assistant with the OU football program since 1999, has resigned from his position in Norman.
The news came from Gundy, the younger brother of Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy, on Sunday night with a statement on social media announcing he would be stepping down due to reading aloud "a word that I should never -- under any circumstance -- have uttered," that was on an iPad in the film room.
Cale Gundy's statement addressing his resignation can be viewed in its entirety here.
"I want to be very clear: the words I read aloud from that screen were not my words. What I said was not malicious; it wasn't even intentional. Still, I am mature enough to know that the word I said was shameful and hurtful, no matter my intentions."

First-year head coach Brent Venables, who was an assistant coach alongside Gundy from 1999 through 2011 under Bob Stoops, confirmed Gundy's resignation with a statement of his own:
"It's with sadness that I accept Coach Gundy's resignation. He's dedicated more than half his life to Oklahoma Football and has served our program and university well. We're thankful for that commitment. We also acknowledge that in stepping aside he's placed the program and the welfare of our student-athletes first. In coaching and in life, we're all accountable for our actions and the resulting outcomes."

According to Coach Venables, L'Damian Washington, who had been serving as an offensive analyst this summer, will now step in and take over the departing Gundy's duties on an interim basis.
