University of Richmond head football coach Russ Huesman announced the hiring of Dave Legg as the program's Director of Football Operations and Recruiting Coordinator.

Legg returns to Richmond for his second stint with the Spiders. He spent 12 seasons at Richmond (2007-18) prior to spending the last three years at Delaware where he was the Special Teams Coordinator and outside linebackers coach.

Legg spent two seasons (2017-18) as the Spiders' recruiting coordinator and has worked with cornerbacks, special teams and defensive line during his first stint at Richmond. He served as the program's special teams coordinator and cornerbacks coach from 2009-17.

Under Legg's tutelage, Richmond led the country three different times in interceptions, including a school-record 29 in 2008 during the program's run to its first-ever National Championship. Richmond led the CAA five times in interceptions and ranked in the top-20 in the country six times with Legg leading the cornerbacks.

Legg coached nearly 20 All-CAA performers during his first stint at Richmond including All-Americans Justin Rogers and Cooper Taylor, both of whom earned NFL contracts after their time with the Spiders.

On special teams, Legg coached placekicker Griffin Trau who earned first Team All-CAA honors, converting 12-14 field goals last year. He also guided Peter Yoder to back-to-back All-CAA accolades, including a record-breaking 2014 campaign, which included 22 field goals made.

Under Legg's guidance in 2007, Richmond's defensive line was one of the league's toughest against the run and produced First Team All-Conference performer Lawrence Sidbury, Jr. The Spiders ranked fourth in the CAA and 29th nationally during the regular season in rushing defense, allowing 131.9 yards/game.

Before coming to Richmond, Legg spent six years at Christopher Newport, helping start the program and serving as Defensive Coordinator. Legg assisted in organizing the Captains' Division III football program from its inception. In Legg's six seasons, CNU reached the Division III playoffs five times.

Prior to arriving at Christopher Newport, Legg spent five years coaching defensive backs as an assistant at Bucknell (1995-99), four years coaching outside linebackers at William & Mary (1991-94) and four years as a defensive line coach at Hampden-Sydney (1987-1990).

Among his coaching highlights have been helping teams to at least the NCAA FCS Semifinals four times, leading William and Mary to back-to-back successes in the 1992 Epson Ivy Bowl and 1993 Yankee Conference Championship, and Bucknell to the 1996 Patriot League Championship.

Legg also helped secure a handful of records, including setting a new Patriot League Record for interceptions (21) in 2000 at Bucknell and becoming the first team in NCAA history to win the conference and advance to the NCAA playoffs in an inaugural season at CNU.
