Houston Football brought in conference and national honors Monday following its 44-37 victory against No. 19/16 SMU on Saturday at TDECU Stadium.
Senior Marcus Jones was recognized as The American Athletic Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week while sophomore Nathaniel Dell earned the league's Offensive Player of the Week. Jones was also tabbed the Reese's Senior Bowl Special Teams Player of the Week.
Jones notched a 100-yard kickoff return touchdown with under 30 seconds remaining to give Houston the lead for good. The feat marked just the second time in the last 15 seasons an FBS program logged a go-ahead touchdown on a kickoff return with less than 30 seconds left in regulation.
Dell caught a career-high three touchdowns alongside 165 yards against SMU. The wideout became the first Houston player since Bryson Smith to record three receiving touchdowns. He also brought in nine receptions including a season-high 52-yard catch.
With Saturday's victory, Houston (7-1 overall, 5-0 The American) ran its win streak to seven consecutive games, the longest streak since winning eight straight from Nov. 27, 2015-Sept. 29, 2016.
