Kevin Samuel (TCU) and Greg Brown (Texas) collected their first Big 12 men’s basketball weekly honor as Samuel was named player of the week while Brown was selected as the top newcomer.
Samuel registered a season-high 18 points, a game-high eight rebounds and a career-high seven blocks in TCU's 77-76 win at Oklahoma State. His seven rejections were the most by a TCU player in 20 seasons. The junior center’s stat line has been achieved by just one other player this season. Samuel is the second TCU player since at least the 1996 season and the first Big 12 player since Mohamed Bomba in December of 2017 to record 18, 8 and 7. His seventh block came on OSU's second-to-last offensive possession to keep TCU down one point and set up RJ Nembhard's game-winning shot.
Brown averaged 20.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks while recording a pair of double-doubles in Texas’ two victories. He posted 17 points and 10 rebounds in addition to two blocks and two steals in 22 minutes against Sam Houston State last Wednesday. The freshman forward returned to record a career-high 24 points and 14 rebounds along with three blocks in a career-high 26 minutes during the Big 12 opener against Oklahoma State. Brown had a team-best plus-minus total of +17 against the Cowboys on Sunday.
