No. 9 Texas Tech will be the second seed in the 2025 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship after matching a program and conference record with only two turnovers and rolling to an 85-57 win over Arizona State in the regular-season finale on Saturday at Desert Financial Arena. The Red Raiders (24-7, 15-5 Big 12) improved to 8-2 on the road this season and now own the most Big 12 total wins and road victories in program history.

JT Toppin recorded his 14th double-double of the season and Christian Anderson matched a career-high with 21 points in the 28-point win. It was the third Big 12 road win of 28 point or more this season, matching a 28-point win at Utah and behind a 38-point victory at Oklahoma State in the record book. Tech finished the game 12-for-33 from 3-point range to extend a program record of 19 games this season with 10 or more 3-pointers. Toppin led Tech with 25 points and 11 rebounds in the win after going for 41 points and 15 rebounds against the Sun Devils in their first matchup. Toppin finished the game 10-for-19 from the field and 5-of-6 at the free-throw line and is now averaging 18.1 points and 9.3 rebounds. He enters the postseason with 26 double-doubles in his career.

Anderson, who also had 21 points in a win over West Virginia, went 4-for-8 from 3-point range and was 7-of-7 at the free-throw line. Kerwin Walton added 11 points after making three 3-pointers and Chance McMillian matched a career-high with six assists and also had nine points. Kevin Overton scored eight points and had five rebounds, Elijah Hawkins scored six points and Darrion Williams had five rebounds and two assists. Tech finished the game with a 39-31 rebounding advantage, owned a 30-0 scoring advantage off the bench and was 17-of-20 at the free-throw line.

Along with committing only two turnovers, Tech finished the game with 16 assists. The two turnovers matched the program record that was set against West Virginia in 2021 and has also only been accomplished by Oklahoma State (2012) and Kansas (2024). Tech earned a double-bye in the Big 12 Championship and will open at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 13 at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City.

"We did feel the strength of our bench and over the course of the game if we could stay aggressive defensively we could break the game open just due to the limited number of guys that they had," Texas Tech coach Grant McCasland said. "We were able to do that to finish the game and stretch the game out. Man, the bench points for us 32 to nothing was really the difference, 13 second chance points to zero, and only turning it over twice and having 16 assists, and not giving them but two 3s. It was just kind of accumulative of a lot of things that allowed us to win the game tonight. Our guys are connected right now and are really trying to play for each other to win and it's a blessing to be a part of this team."

Arizona State, which fell 111-106 in double-overtime on February 12 in Lubbock, was only 2-for-15 from 3-point range and shot 37.3 percent from the field. Basheer Jihad led the Sun Devils with 22 points and six rebounds while Joson Sanon scored 16 points. ASU (13-18, 4-16 Big 12) went 17-for-23 at the free-throw line and had six turnovers.

Tech expanded a four-point halftime lead to 47-37 on a Williams jumper for its first double-digit lead and was up 62-51 with nine minutes remaining with Anderson converting a four-point play. The lead was at 15 on an Overton layup and then reached 20 with five to play on an Overton 3-pointer.

Texas Tech took a 36-32 lead into halftime after going 8-for-20 (40.0 percent) from 3-point range while limiting Arizona State to only 1-of-7 on 3-point attempts. Walton led the Red Raiders with nine points after making 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, Toppin had eight points and Anderson drilled a 3 at the buzzer to finish with six points. McMillian went into the break with five assists and five points while Overton and Hawkins hit one 3 each and had three points going into the break. Tech got its first and last points of the first half on 3s with Hawkins hitting one on the opening possession before Anderson made Tech's eighth between mid-court and the 3-point stripe. Tech was on an 8-0 run with McMillian and Walton each hitting one and Walton connected again for a 24-20 lead. Basheer led ASU with 14 points in a half where the Sun Devils were 11-for-23 from the field and 9-of-13 at the free-throw line.
