Ending a three-game skid, the Baylor Bears got a combined 42 points from seniors Jeremy Roach, Jayden Nunn and Norchad Omier on Senior Day and overcome a shaky start to defeat the Oklahoma State Cowboys, 71-61, Saturday night before a packed house at Foster Pavilion.
Roach scored 15 of his season-high 21 points in the second half, hitting back-to-back 3-pointers and scoring eight points in a 12-0 run by the Bears (17-12, 9-9). Omier had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, while Nunn was 3-for-8 from 3-point range and chipped in with 11 points.
The Cowboys (14-15, 6-12), trying to win their second-straight and third in their last four games, got off to a great start and went up double digits, 17-7, as the Bears shot 23.5% overall and 2-of-17 from outside the arc in the first half.
Freshman Robert O. Wright III provided most of Baylor's first-half offense, scoring 12 of his 16 points in the first 20 minutes. The Bears took their first lead of the game on an Omier dunk and went into the locker room up 26-24 despite a frigid shooting performance that included 8-of-15 from the line.
Bryce Thompson scored 13 of his team-high 19 points for the Cowboys in the second half, going 4-for-8 from the floor and a perfect 5-of-5 from the line.
Baylor goes back on the road to face TCU (16-13, 9-9) at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Fort Worth. The Frogs, who handed the Bears one of their two homecourt losses back in January, snapped their own two-game losing streak with an 89-78 win over UCF on Saturday.
