A total team effort ended with Mark Drone making a driving layup with 0.5 seconds left on the clock for the game-winning shot as Texas State took down South Alabama 93-92 in overtime Saturday evening in Strahan Arena.

With the win, the Bobcats improved to 15-14 overall and 8-8 in the Sun Belt Conference while the Jaguars fell to 19-10 on the season, 11-5 in conference play and from the top spot in the league's standings.

Five TXST players scored in double-figures led by 20 from Tyrel Morgan. He was 8-off-11 from the field while finishing with three rebounds and assists. Tylan Pope recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds, half of which came on the offensive glass.

Coming off the bench, Coleton Benson totaled 19 points on 5-of-9 shooting with all of his made attempts come from beyond the arc. Falling just shy of a double-double was Johsua O'Garro with 13 points and nine rebounds. Drone finished the game with 11 points and a team-high six assists.

As a team, the Bobcats outrebounded South Alabama 34-28, held an 18-2 advantage in second chance points and only committed nine turnovers. This was able to offset a 46-point performance by the Jaguars' Barry Dunning, Jr., who was 13-of-20 from the field, went 9-for-12 on three-pointers and made all 11 of his free throw shots.

South Alabama held the lead for nearly the first 17 minutes of the game. The lone exception was a 1:07 minute stretch when the game was tied at 19 after Drone made a three-pointer. Benson's second of three treys of the opening half gave TXST its first lead of the game at 33-31 with 2:16 to go in the period.

The junior guard final long-distance shot of the half came with 26 seconds remaining on the clock to give the Bobcats a one-point advantage. However, the Jaguars got a free throw with nearly three seconds to play to knot the score at 36-36 heading into halftime.

Five quick points to open the second half saw the Jaguars again take the lead. They would hold until O'Garro hit a corner three-pointer with 6:40 left in regulation. Dunning answered with a three-pointer the next time down the court but Benson responded with a triple of his own to tie the game again.

Down 77-73 with three minutes left, Benson was fouled on a three-point attempt and made all of the charity stripe attempts. O'Garro was fouled grabbing a defensive board and made both ends of a one-and-one to give TXST a one-point advantage.

An old-fashion three-point play was converted by Dunning to put the Jaguars back ahead. A second chance layup by Morgan would tie the game with 1:04 showing on the clock. However, South Alabama retook the lead on two Myles Corey free throws. Morgan missed a layup the next time down the court but Pope was able to tip the ball in to tie contest at 82 with 15.4 seconds on the clock.

On the final possession of regulation, Corey threw a bad pass that Drone got his hands on but couldn't corral. The ball fell into the hands of Dunning, who shot a three-pointer with 5.3 remaining. It was off the mark and Judah Brown grabbed the board. His fade away attempt was short but Dunning crashed and had a putback attempt that was too hard off the glass as the buzzer sounded.

It would take a minute and a half until either team scored in the extra period with it being a layup by Pope. The Franklinton, Louisiana native would make another layup and 1-of-2 free throws to extend Texas State's advantage to 87-84.

Following an Elijah Ormiston layup, Benson hit a long three-pointer from the left wing to extend the lead to four points with 36 ticks left. Dunning answered with a triple the next time down the court to again make it a one-point contest.

Benson would be fouled and go to the line to shoot two free throws with 19.6 seconds remaining. He made the first one but missed the second. Pope was there to grab the offensive board but threw the ball away when trying to get it out to Morgan to run more time off the clock.

Dunning took advantage and was fouled on a made layup with 5.6 seconds remaining. He would make the free throw to put the visitors in front 92-91.

Coming out of the Bobcats' final timeout. Drone in-bounded the ball to Morgan, who flipped it back to the junior guard. He went the distance, found an opening and converted a driving layup with half a tick to go. South Alabama in-bounded the ball but the horn sounded before the desperation shot was able to be attempted.

Next for the Bobcats is a meeting with Troy on Tuesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. from inside Strahan Arena.
