Former Syracuse Science Academy standout Symir Torrence has signed a financial aid agreement with Syracuse and plans to join the men's basketball program. Torrence spent the last two years at Marquette.
The 6-3, 190 guard played 51 games over two seasons at Marquette. He started the first three games of the 2020-21 campaign and also missed three contests because of a toe injury. Torrence finished his sophomore campaign averaging 2.4 points, 1.4 rebounds and 13.1 minutes played per game. Marquette was 13-14 overall and 8-11 in the BIG EAST Conference.
In 2019-20, Torrence saw action in 28 contests and averaged 1.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and 11.0 minutes per game. The Golden Eagles were 18-12 and 8-10 in the BIG EAST.
He was a two-time, first-team All-New England selection as a junior and senior at Vermont Academy. He averaged 17.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 steals as a junior. Torrence helped the Wildcats to the 2019 New England Prep School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC) AA semifinals, at the conclusion of this senior season. He produced averages of 17.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists that year. Torrence played for Coach Alexander Popp at Vermont Academy.
In 2016-17 as a sophomore at Syracuse Science Academy, Torrence averaged 21.6 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.9 assists. He earned first-team All-Central New York honors.
Torrence played on the AAU circuit with the Albany City Rocks. He was a teammate of current Syracuse performers Buddy Boeheim and Joseph Girard with the City Rocks.
