University of Hawai'i men's basketball coach Eran Ganot announced the addition of another piece to the 2024-25 roster with the signing of Osa Obasohan. Obasohan, a 6-4 guard from Antwerp, Beligan, has three years of eligibility with the Rainbow Warriors.
Obasohan is 21 years old but will be playing college basketball for the first time after competing in leagues throughout Europe. This past season he played as an amateur for Espoirs Le Mans in the LNB Espoirs, a French under-21 league. In 33 appearances he averaged 14.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. Obasohan scored 20 or more points eight times, including a stretch of four straight such games. He also exploded for a career-high 30 points in a contest versus Espoirs Saint Quentin.
"Osa is a dynamic, big guard who can play multiple positions because of his size and athletic ability," Ganot said. "His resume from a competitive league in Europe gives us confidence that he can have an impact on both ends of the floor for us. Osa's high character and leadership qualities fit seamlessly into our program and we look forward to him making a mark here."
Obasohan has experience competing in the United States, having been enrolled at The Skill Factory in Marietta, Ga. His older brother, Retin, was a first-team all-SEC player at Alabama who played for the Sacramento Kings Summer League team before enjoying an extended professional career in Europe.
Obasohan is the fourth straight international player to sign with UH joining frontcourt players Gytis Nemeikša (Lithuania) and Jerome Palm (Netherlands) as well as fellow guard Jacopo Van der Knaap (Italy).
