Spencer Mahoney has signed to play for the California men's basketball team, head coach Mark Madsen announced. Mahoney, who utilized his redshirt option as a freshman at Washington State last season, will join the Golden Bears for the upcoming 2024-25 campaign and has four years of eligibility remaining.
A 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward from New York City, Mahoney is the 10th transfer signee to join the Bears this offseason.
"Spencer is a really talented player who will space the floor and knock down shots from a variety of spots," Madsen said. "His size and length will make our team a more versatile unit. Our staff is very excited about what Spencer is going to bring to our program – it's great to have him wearing Blue and Gold."
Mahoney rounded out a well-traveled prep career at Red Rock Academy in Las Vegas in 2023, where he averaged 18 points and six rebounds per game. He started his senior year of high school at St. Benedict's Preparatory School (Newark, New Jersey), played his junior year at Xaverian High School (Brooklyn, New York) and spent his freshman and sophomore years as Iona Preparatory Upper School (New Rochelle, New York).
Mahoney was rated as a four-star recruit by ESPN and a three-star prospect and a top-50 rated power forward by 247Sports.
