Prior to KSU, Jones played one year at Wasatch Academy in Mount Pleasant, Utah. Wasatch is the same prep school where TCU fall signee Malick Diallo played this past season. Jones averaged 11.9 points on 40 percent shooting, including 39 percent from 3-point range, which 5.2 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 steals while earning Third Team All-NIBC honors.

As a prep player, Jones starred at John Paul II High School in Plano, Texas as a junior. Jones was selected as the 2022 TAPPS Class 6A Player of the Year and named TAPPS Class 6A First Team All-State.  Jones was also chosen as the MVP of District 6A-2 as well as an all-district selection and was a Second Team All-Area pick by the Dallas Morning News.

Prior to John Paul II, Jones combined for more than 800 points in his first two high school seasons (2019-21) at Braswell High School in Little Elm, Texas. He averaged 19 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals in 29 games played as a sophomore in 2020-21.
