For a UConn-record seventh time this season, men's basketball freshman Stephon Castle (Covington, Ga.) has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, the league announced.

It is the sixth honor in the last seven weeks for Castle. In addition, Cam Spencer (Davidsonville, Md.) earned his first nod on the league's weekly honor roll.

Castle finished a 2-0 week for Connecticut averaging 11.0 points and 3.0 rebounds on 58.8 percent shooting. His top performance of the week came against Georgetown on Saturday, when he scored 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor.

Overall on his freshman campaign Castle is averaging 10.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Each of those marks are tops among BIG EAST freshmen. His seven weekly laurels from the conference top the UConn record of six, set last year by teammate Alex Karaban.

The weekly nod for Spencer comes after the grad student averaged 15.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game in wins over Butler and Georgetown. Spencer started the week by pumping in a team-high 20 points against the Bulldogs on Tuesday. He followed that up with a stat sheet-stuffing performance against the Hoyas on Saturday, finishing with 10 points, a career-high seven assists and six rebounds.

Castle, Spencer and the Huskies return to action on Wednesday night with a trip to Chicago to take on DePaul.
