UConn junior Adama Sanogo is one of just 25 college basketball student-athletes named to the John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List.
The list, chosen by a poll of national college basketball experts, is based on the players' performances during the 2022-23 season thus far and consists of the 25 student-athletes who are considered the frontrunners to receive one of the sport's most prestigious honors. At the end of the college season, the Wooden Award is presented by the Los Angeles Athletic Club to the college basketball Player of the Year.
Sanogo, who was the BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year, has led the Huskies to a 14-2 record and a national ranking that went as high as No. 2. The junior leads UConn is scoring (17.4 ppg) and rebounding (6.8 rpg) and has a field goal percentage of .604.
Sanogo was a First Team All-BIG EAST selection last season and one of five finalists for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award.
In the next step of the Wooden Award process, 15 top players will be placed on the Wooden Award National Ballot and nearly 1,000 voters will rank in order 10 of those 15 players when voting opens prior to the NCAA Tournament. The Wooden Award All-American Team will be announced during the week of the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament. The winner of the 2023 John R. Wooden Award will be presented following the NCAA Tournament in April.
