Jalen Hill and Tanner Groves combined for 31 points and Oklahoma men's basketball dropped its Wednesday clash with No. 25/25 Iowa State 63-60 at Lloyd Noble Center.
Hill finished 5 of 8 from the field and recorded a team-high 16 points to go along with six rebounds and four steals. Groves tallied 15 points and wrangled a team-high eight boards. Bijan Cortes played a season-high 27:47 off the bench and scored 10 points.
Oklahoma (9-5, 0-2 Big 12) found itself down 25-7 after the first nine minutes.
Following an OU timeout, the Sooners clamped down on defense and found their rhythm on offense, scoring 20 unanswered points over the next seven minutes.
Hill started the scoring spurt with his first of two 3-pointers on the night and ended it with a jumper to put the Sooners ahead 27-25. Cortes scored seven of his 10 points during the run.
After a pair of free throws by Iowa State's Caleb Grill, the two Big 12 foes traded baskets in the final two minutes of the half to enter the break knotted at 29.
Iowa State recaptured the lead out of the break, scoring seven of the first nine points. Hill evened the score after knocking down two free throws and a 3-pointer.
ISU kept trying to pull away, but the Sooners would tie the score four times over the final 15 minutes.
T. Groves buried his lone three of the night with 2:08 left to cut the Cyclone lead to two. On the next possession, Milos Uzan banked a floater in as the shot clock expired, tying the game at 56.
Iowa State responded with a layup and Bijan Cortes countered to tie the score for the final time.
The Cyclones knocked down a pair of free throws with five seconds remaining to extend their advantage back to three. OU's last second 3-pointer attempt rattled off the rim to conclude the contest as time expired.
