Ethan Thompson scored 20 points and Jarod Lucas added 18 but it wasn't enough in Oregon State's 75-62 loss to USC on Thursday afternoon at the Galen Center.
Evan Mobley had 14 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Trojans (13-3, 7-2 Pac-12) to their eighth win in the last nine games. Their only setback during that stretch was a 58-56 loss to the Beavers on Jan. 19 at Gill Coliseum.
Thompson had 20 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals to lead Oregon State (8-6, 4-4 Pac-12) in all four categories. Lucas went 6-for-11 from the field and 4-for-6 from beyond the arc for his 18 points.
Oregon State cut a 16-point deficit to 65-58 on three consecutive 3-pointers by Thompson, Lucas and Julien Franklin. But that proved to be the Beavers' last big run as they never got closer than seven points in the closing minutes.
The teams traded baskets early in the second half after neither led by more than five points in the first 20 minutes.
It wasn't until the Trojans put together their biggest spurt of the game that they got any breathing room. They outscored the Beavers 18-6 to take a 65-49 lead, their largest of the game.
Chevez Goodwin scored six points during the spurt. He finished with 10 rebounds, helping the Trojans dominate the boards, 48-30.
The Beavers will next face No. 23 UCLA (12-3, 8-1 Pac-12) at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Pauley Pavilion in a game televised on Pac-12 Network.
