There are no signs of slowing down in Waco, as the Baylor Bears picked up a huge commitment from five-star recruit, Ja'Kobe Walter. The high school senior announced his intentions to play at Baylor on the one-year anniversary of his first visit to BU's campus.

"I decided to end my recruitment, because at first it's exciting, but as time goes on, it starts to become more difficult," said Walter about his decision-making approach. "The recruiting process was starting to get repetitive."

Baylor's latest commit, a 6-foot-5 wing from Texas, had narrowed his list of schools down to Texas, Auburn, BU, and Alabama, before ultimately choosing Baylor this week. While Walter made trips to both Alabama and Auburn, before an official visit to Austin to see what Texas had to offer in April, a visit to Waco earlier in June was clearly enough to put the Bears over the top.

"The winning history under Coach Drew and who he has put in the [NBA]," Walter said when asked why he chose Baylor. "He is a super high-energy guy. I have never seen him have a bad day. I like the way he builds confidence in his players."

It makes sense for Walter to want to play in a league like the Big 12 Conference, and for a coach like Scott Drew. The last three NCAA Tournament Championship Games have featured a Big 12 team with Texas Tech being the Runner-Up in 2019, Baylor winning in 2021, and Kansas being crowned the NCAA Champion last season. (There was no tournament in 2020 due to COVID-19.)

Walter joins Finnish point guard Miro Little, a four-star prospect out of Finland that is currently playing at Helsinki Basketball Academy, as the second commitment in Baylor's 2023 recruiting class.
