Baylor’s Jared Butler earned his fourth career Big 12 weekly award and third as Player of the Week while Oklahoma’s Elijah Harkless was recognized with his first Newcomer of the Week honor.
Butler averaged 26.0 points and 7.0 assists to lead Baylor to wins over No. 9 Kansas and at Oklahoma State. He shot 66.7 percent (18-27) from the field, including 81 percent (13-16) from the three-point line. Butler posted 30 points against Kansas, joining Kevin Durant as the only players in Big 12 history to have multiple 30-point games against the Jayhawks. The junior guard scored 22 points at OSU to help the Bears erase their largest deficit of the season (nine points) and pull away for a 15-point win. Butler moved up to 27th on Baylor's all-time scoring list with 1,067 career points.
Harkless helped lead Oklahoma to wins over Kansas State and No. 9 Kansas while serving as a defensive catalyst. The 6-3 guard led the Big 12 in steals (6), rebounds (20) and rebounds per game (10.0). He also averaged 7.5 points and 4.5 assists while shooting 50 percent from the field. Harkless played a combined 54 minutes in the two games after playing a total of 125 minutes in seven previous outings. In the win over K-State, he became the first major conference player this season to produce 13 rebounds, six assists and three steals in a game.
