Judah Mintz, a 6-3 guard who excelled for national power Oak Hill Academy, has signed a National Letter of Intent to enroll and play basketball at Syracuse University.
He becomes part of a class that now includes six incoming freshmen for the Orange. Mintz joins forward Maliq Brown (Blue Ridge School), forward Chris Bunch (Wasatch Academy), center Peter Carey (Northfield Mount Herman School), guard Quadir Copeland (IMG Academy) and swingman Justin Taylor (IMG Academy).
The addition of Mintz boosted Syracuse in 2022 team rankings. The Orange group is ranked seventh by Rivals.com and 15th by 247sports.com.
Mintz led Oak Hill Academy to a 33-8 record during his senior season, and averaged 15.2 points, 4.0 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game. The Warriors, coached by Steve Smith, were ranked eighth in the ESPN High School Top 25. Mintz was ranked 35th by ESPN, 53rd by 247sports.com and 56th by Rivals.com in the Class of 2022.
The following five players signed National Letters of Intent during the early signing period in November:
Brown, a 6-9, 210 forward, who played at Blue Ridge School (Va.) for Coach Cade Lemcke.
Bunch, a 6-8, 190 forward, who attended Wasatch Academy in Mount Pleasant, Utah.
Carey, a 6-11, 190 center/forward at Northfield Mount Hermon School (Mass.).
Copeland, a 6-6, 175 guard, who competed for national powerhouse IMG Academy (Fla.) under Coach Chad Myers
Taylor, a 6-6, 200 forward, who played alongside Copeland at IMG Academy (Fla.).
The National Letter-of-Intent program was started in 1964. Administered by the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA), the program was designed with prospective student-athletes in mind. A signed letter-of-intent indicates a prospective student-athlete agrees to attend the designated college or university for one academic year. Institutions agree to provide athletics financial aid for one academic year to the student-athlete, provided the student-athlete is admitted to the institution and is eligible for financial aid under NCAA rules.
