Northern Kentucky defeated IUPUI, 60-41, Saturday at Indiana Farmers Coliseum and ended its four-game road trip with a 3-1 record. The Norse (8-9, 4-4 Horizon League) dealt the short-handed Jaguars (1-17, 0-8) a 12th straight loss.

STATS LEADERS

  • Trevon Faulkner led NKU with 18 points via 6-for-12 shooting, including a 5-for-9 mark beyond the arc. He added three rebounds, two assists and a steal.
  • Sam Vinson scored 15 points, his fifth double-scoring game in the last six outings, and added five assists, two rebounds, a steal and a block.
  • Bryson Langdon tied a career high with five steals, matching his performance against Midway on Nov. 25, 2019. He accounted for over half of NKU's nine steals.

TURNING POINT

  • NKU mounted a 17-4 run early in the game and short-handed IUPUI, which muddled through 22.7% first-half shooting and a rash of turnovers, never recovered. The Norse led by 20 points at halftime and extended the margin to 25 after the break. 

FIRST HALF SUMMARY

  • The Norse forced four IUPUI miscues in less than four minutes, a trend that continued throughout the frame. NKU scored 11 points off the Jaguars' 12 first-half miscues.
  • NKU broke up the game on an 11-2 run, buttressed by two Trevon Faulkner 3-pointers and an Adrian Nelson layup. The Jags burned a timeout with 12:19 left in the half, down 14-5.
  • Trevon Faulkner scored eight of NKU's first 16 points and added two assists and a rebound in the opening 10 minutes. Six players scored in the early going, including Marques Warrick, whose dunk extended the Norse run to 17-4.
  • NKU went on an 10-0 tear and denied IUPUI a point for 6:45.
  • NKU led by as many as 20 points, fueled by 46.2% 3-point shooting (6-for-13).

SECOND HALF SUMMARY

  • Sam Vinson's layup to start the second half expanded NKU's lead to 22 points.
  • Mike DePersia scored four points in a 7-1 IUPUI run that narrowed NKU's lead to 16 at the 16:08 mark, but the Norse rallied after coach Darrin Horn's timeout. They rattled off seven straight points for a 23-point advantage (45-22) at the 12:12 mark.
  • Hubie Pivorius delivered his first 3-pointer since Dec. 18 at Eastern Kentucky to boost a 10-2 Norse run.
  • Sam Vinson scored five straight points to give NKU its largest lead of the game, 53-28, with 8:19 to play.

GAME NOTES

  • IUPUI entered the game with a depleted roster and had only six available players.
  • NKU held the Jaguars under 50 points for their third straight game and scored 25 points off IUPUI's 20 turnovers.
  • NKU won the rebounding battle 31-27, bolstered by Trey Robinson's seven boards. The Norse converted 10 second-chance points.
  • NKU shot 84.6% (11-for-13) from the free-throw line. Jake Evans led the way with a 4-of-4 mark.
