In arguably the team's best offensive performance of the season, the University of Missouri men's basketball team took down No. 15 Alabama inside Mizzou Arena, 92-86. In its first conference win of the year, the Tigers had a season-high 92 points scored led by a career-high 30 from Kobe Brown.
"We have a ways to go as a team, but I think we've made tremendous strides, especially in the week or so we've had a chance to practice and get better," said Whitten Family Head Coach Cuonzo Martin. "I thought our guys came with the hard hat. They worked hard."
Brown was absolutely dominant in all parts of the game, shooting 9-of-13 including a pair of three-pointers. He recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 13 points in addition to four assists and a block. Mizzou had four players contribute double-digit scoring efforts as Jarron Coleman had a season-best 18, in addition to 15 from Javon Pickett and DaJuan Gordon.
TURNING POINT
Down 43-40 at half, the Tigers opened the second period with a 9-1 run for a 48-45 lead that they would never relinquish. Alabama pulled within one on numerous occasions including a layup by Jahvon Quinerly to tighten the lead to 50-49, but Mizzou found an answer with a second-chance layup by Kobe Brown.
Mizzou reached its largest lead of the game at 18, 72-54, after outscoring Alabama by 17 over a six-minute stretch. The Crimson Tide fought back to bring the game within four, however, the Tigers went 8-of-10 from the free throw line in the final two minutes to clinch the victory.
GAME NOTES
- Mizzou tied a season-high with nine three-pointers, led by Coleman who recorded a team-high four.
- The win marks the third-straight season the Tigers have secured at least one victory against a top-25 team.
- Mizzou is 6-0 this season when scoring 70+ points and was the first victory in 2021-22 when allowing more than 80 by its opponent.
- The offensive glass continues to be a success point for the Tigers, as Mizzou had 16 offensive boards and outrebounded Alabama 43-31.
- Trevon Brazile keeps showing his impact for Missouri with a career-high seven rebounds in addition to three blocks. He has recorded a block in all six games he has played this season, including multiple blocks in the last five.
- The team's 92 points are the most ever scored by Mizzou against Alabama and the fourth-most for the Tigers in an SEC game.
- Coleman has three-straight games in double-digits and seven-consecutive games with a three-pointer.
