Wake Forest assistant baseball coach John Hendricks announced on Monday that he will resign his post on the Demon Deacons coaching staff and pursue other opportunities.
"John Hendricks had a great career as a Wake Forest baseball alum and I appreciate all his hard work over the past few years as a member of our coaching staff," head coach Tom Walter said. "We thank him for his service to Wake Forest and for the commitment he made to help our student-athletes grow on and off the field."
"I will be stepping away from the Wake Forest baseball program to pursue other opportunities," said Hendricks. "I'd like to thank the University for all they do for its student-athletes and the chance to be a part of it. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work with such talented young men these past five semesters. It's been the pleasure of a lifetime to build relationships with all of them. I will always have their backs as they move forward in life. I've been a Deacon for over 25 years and will continue to be the biggest of supporters going forward. I wish the players and baseball program the highest level of success. Go Deacs!"
Hendricks, a 2000 graduate of Wake Forest and 2020 Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame inductee, still ranks as the program's all-time leader with 34 career wins and 409.2 innings pitched, and was also the strikeout leader with 312 until 2017. He has helped four members of his pitching staff get drafted in his first two seasons as pitching coach, while he tutored Ryan Cusick to amass 206 strikeouts in his career.
Wake Forest head coach Tom Walter will begin a search for his replacement immediately.
