Kansas’ Caleb Upshaw (Player; Newcomer), Oklahoma’s Jake Bennett (Pitcher) and Oklahoma State’s Nolan McLean (Player) earned Big 12 Baseball weekly honors for games ending on May 1, as selected by a five-person media panel.

McLean was a standout at the plate and on the mound during OSU’s 4-0 week which included a sweep of then-No. 6 Texas. The sophomore had five hits in 15 at-bats, including two doubles and a pair of home runs. McLean took the mound to pick up the saves in both the opener and finale against the Longhorns, retiring all six batters he faced in both contests, protecting a two-run lead both times with perfect ninth-innings. The infielder was Oklahoma State’s leading hitter during the weekend, going 4-for-10 with a team-high six runs, four walks and three RBI.

Upshaw posted a line of .500/.524/1.000 while going 11-for-22 and hitting five doubles, two home runs, nine RBI and scoring four runs in the Jayhawks’ last five games. For the week, the senior posted the second highest batting average in the Big 12 and ranked third in RBI, leading the league in hits and total bases and tying for the most doubles. Upshaw produced at least two hits in all five games this week and at least one RBI in each game. Seven of his 11 hits were extra-base hits. Upshaw raised his batting average from .273 at the beginning of the week to .307 at the end of the week and posted a 1.542 OPS.

Bennett matched his career high with 11 strikeouts over seven shutout innings in the Sooners’ 14-2 series-opening win over Kansas State on Friday. The sophomore lefty allowed just two hits and zero walks during his outing, holding down a Wildcats offense that entered the weekend averaging more than 6.5 runs and almost 10 hits per game. Bennett’s 11 strikeouts tied for most among Big 12 starting pitchers last week.
