West Virginia’s Austin Davis (Player), Texas’ Pete Hansen (Pitcher), Texas Tech’s Andrew Morris (Co-Newcomer) and Oklahoma State’s Roc Riggio (Co-Newcomer) were selected for Big 12 baseball weekly awards by a five-person media panel, through games of April 10.
Davis had four multi-hit games to help the Mountaineers to a 4-0 record and post a .688 batting average. The Orlando, Florida native scored 10 runs on the week, stole a pair of bases, hit a home run in the series finale against Baylor. He posted a 1.675 OPS on the week and had three three-hit games.
Hansen secured his second consecutive Pitcher of the Week honor with a complete game shutout of then-No. 23 TCU. The El Dorado Hills, California native scattered three baserunners on two hits and a walk, and struck out 12, including striking out the side in the first inning. It is the only complete game shutout thrown in a Big 12 game this season, and matches the most strikeouts for a pitcher in Big 12 play since 2019.
Morris threw seven innings, striking out nine without a walk as he picked up a win against Kansas State Friday. The Colorado Mesa transfer allowed three runs on six hits, but it was more than enough for a 6-3 Red Raider victory. It is Morris’ second Newcomer of the Week award in the past three weeks.
Riggio hit .353 on the week, reaching with a base hit in all four games. In Saturday’s game against Oklahoma, Riggio went 3-for-4 with two home runs, including a game-tying two-run blast in the bottom of the eighth inning. He finished the week with a 1.332 OPS, three doubles, three runs scored and five RBIs to earn his first Big 12 weekly honor.
