NC State baseball freshman Tommy White was named the Dick Howser Trophy National Player of the Month for February, announced by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

White got off to a sensational start to his college career, helping the Wolfpack get off to an 8-0 start in its season. In his first collegiate weekend against Evansville he with 9-for-14 with 12 runs batted in and five home runs, highlighted by three homers and six RBIs in his debut on Feb. 18, to earn ACC Player of the Week honors as well as national weekly honors from DI Baseball, Collegiate Baseball, NCBWA and Perfect Game.

His three home runs on Opening Day were the most by an NC State player in a game since 2010, and it was just the second time the feat had been accomplished since 1999.

He followed it up last week going 11-for-20 with four homers and 17 RBIs and earned National Player of the Week honors from Collegiate Baseball. On Feb. 25 vs. Quinnipiac he matched his career high in RBIs with six when he hit a grand slam and a two-run home run in back-to-back at bats.

In the month of February, he led the NCAA in home runs (9), hits (20) and RBIs (29), and ranked second in runs scored (18) and slugging percentage (1.412). Additionally, he tallied multiple hits and multiple RBIs in seven of his eight starts and hit at least one home run in six of those games.

NC State returns to action this weekend when it hosts Northeastern in a three-game series at Doak Field at Dail Park. The teams will play Friday at 3 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m., and all three games will be broadcast on the ACCNX.
