Rice men's basketball coach Rob Lanier has announced the signing of transfer Caden Powell to a grant-in-aid for the 2024-25 school year.

"Caden's mobility, athleticism and basketball IQ will help us right away on both ends of the floor," said Lanier. "He also has tremendous room for growth and the desire to match. We are so excited as about the impact Caden has the potential to make."

Powell, a 6-10 forward, comes to South Main after spending the last two years at Wyoming. Last season, he averaged 5.4 points and 4.6 rebounds. He connected on 48.2% from the field and led the team with 24 blocks. He had four double-figure scoring games, including a career-high 17 against Saint Louis.

In two years at Wyoming, he averaged 3.8 points and 3.4 rebounds while connecting on 47.7% from the field.

A native of Waco, Powell was rated a three-star recruit by both 247sports and Rivals. The 39th-ranked center by 247sports, he was an All-Region honoree as a senior, earning 11-6A Defensive MVP.

Powell joins guard/forward Kellen Amos (Houston, Texas/Central Connecticut State), guards Denver Anglin (Montclair, N.J./SMU), Anthony Baston, Jr. (Scottsdale, Ariz.), Trae Broadnax (Savannah, Ga./USC Upstate), and Aaron Powell (Valley Village, Calif.), and forward Trey Patterson (Somerset, N.J./Villanova) in the 2024-25 recruiting class.
