The Coastal Carolina men's basketball team will hit the road for their next two Sun Belt Conference play with games, as the Chanticleers will travel to Atlanta, Ga. to take on Georgia State on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 15-16. Friday's action is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. ET while Saturday's matinee will begin at 4 p.m. ET.
The Chants enter the weekend at 9-2 overall and tied for the Sun Belt East Division lead with a 3-1 record while the Panthers are 7-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
The games represent the first conference road trip of the season for the Chants after opening up conference play with four consecutive home games, which included opening conference play against this same Georgia State team.
The two teams split the previous two meetings this season in Conway with CCU winning the opener 81-69 and the Panthers returning the favor in a 70-62 win in the second game. Just like the first time the two teams met, this weekend's contests features the top-two scoring teams in the Sun Belt with CCU averaging 88.8 points per game and Georgia State 88.2.
The Chants quick start has them ranked 22nd in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll and Georgia State is the highest-ranked Sun Belt team in the poll at number 9.
Coastal continues to be led by DeVante' Jones and his league-leading 22.7 points per game average. He also leads the league in total steals with 42 thefts.
Jones has plenty of help in the scoring department as Deanthony Tipler (15.6), Essam Mostafa (13.2) and Tyrik Dixon (10.4) are also averaging double-figure scoring.
Georgia State has not played since their two games against the Chants back on Jan. 1-2. The Panthers were forced to postpone last weekend's games against Troy due to COVID-19 protocols and procedures.
GSU has a balanced scoring attack led by Corey Allen and his 15.4 points per game average. It's not all Allen, as he has plenty of scoring help from Justin Roberts (14.8), Kane Williams (13.7), and Eliel Nsoseme (13.6).
Nsoseme leads the team with 10.6 rebounds per game and is shooting over 66 percent from the field. Allen leads the Sun Belt in three-point field goal percentage at 54.2 percent.
