TCU junior pitcher Payton Tolle has been named the Big 12 Pitcher and Newcomer of the Week for his performance against Oklahoma State last Friday night.
Additionally, he has been named the D1Baseball.com National Pitcher of the Week. The honor is the first for Tolle and the fourth for TCU this season.
Tolle was masterful in recording his first complete game shutout in a TCU uniform. The junior left-hander allowed five hits, walked three and struck out a career-high 15 batters. He never faced more than four batters in an inning, twice getting double play balls to eliminate base runners. He struck out multiple batters in five innings. No Cowboy hitter advanced to third in the contest.
The 15 strikeouts were the most for a pitcher since Kyle Winkler struck out 15 against Air Force on April 1, 2011. The nine inning, complete game shutout was the first for a Horned Frog since Johnny Ray against Minnesota on Feb. 22, 2020.
Tolle joins Chase Brunson (Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, Feb. 19), Anthony Silva (Big 12 Player of the Week, Feb. 19) and Braeden Sloan (Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, March 4) as TCU honorees this season.
