LuJames Groover III notched his second weekly honor on Monday after being named Perfect Game's College Player of the Week.
After being named the ACC Player of the Week earlier on Monday, Groover III adds a national weekly honor to his name following an excellent weekend for the Wolfpack third baseman. He joins Cannon Peebles (Collegiate Baseball) and Payton Green (Collegiate Baseball) as the three members of the Pack to earn National Player of the Week honors in 2023.
Groover III batted .600 (9-for-15) with a .714 on-base percentage, 1.267 slugging percentage, three home runs, six walks, eight runs scored and three RBI to key NC State's 4-0 week, which included the program's first-ever weekend sweep of Florida State. The Morrow, Georgia native recorded three multi-hit outings, including three-hit performances against UNCW (Tuesday) and Florida State (Saturday).
The third baseman slugged two of his three home runs in Saturday's comeback victory over Florida State, including breaking a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo home run. On his birthday (Sunday), Groover III capped a 2-for-4 afternoon by scoring the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th.
Groover III has raised his batting average from .284 before a doubleheader against No. 2 Wake Forest on April 9 to .338 following his nine-hit week for the Wolfpack. He has hit safely in 11 of his past 12 games, recording multiple hits in six of those 11 contests.
Groover III leads NC State in walks (25), runs scored (30), hits (47) and total bases (73) so far this season. He leads the Wolfpack with a .364 batting average, 24 hits and a .457 on-base percentage in ACC games.
