After leading the Roadrunners to their second-most wins in a single season, head coach Pat Hallmark has agreed to a four-year contract extension. The new deal is scheduled to keep Hallmark in San Antonio through the 2026 season.
"Coach Hallmark has our baseball program moving in the right direction," UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Lisa Campos said. "His leadership and ability to recruit academically and athletically talented students resulted in one of the best seasons in program history this past spring. We're thrilled to be able to secure him for four more years and very excited about what's in store for the future of UTSA Baseball."
Hallmark's 2022 Roadrunners went 11-4 against ranked opponents and 9-3 against top 25 teams which led Conference USA. The Roadrunners' 19-11 record in conference play was their best since they won 20 in the Southland back in 2009. Hallmark led the Roadrunners to the championship game of the Conference USA tournament, UTSA's first championship game appearance since 2014.
"I am excited and grateful that UTSA and Dr. Campos has given me the opportunity to continue to lead our baseball program and represent UTSA," said Hallmark. "I want to acknowledge the players, assistant coaches and support staff who are the reason this extension happened. Last season was a terrific year both on the field and in the classroom. Our goals remain high on the field and we will continue to uphold the values and mission of UTSA Athletics."
The 2022 Roadrunners received votes from major polls in 11 of 16 weeks. UTSA finished the 2022 campaign with a 37 RPI, a new school record. The previous high for a UTSA squad at season's end was 66 in 2007. Hallmark led UTSA to two of the best individual months in program history. A 7-1 February and 15-3 April rank in the top four individual months in program history.
The 2022 squad also rewrote the Roadrunner record books statistically. UTSA scored 467 runs on the year, tying the school record set in 2008. Under Hallmark, UTSA's strikeout numbers have climbed each season and culminated this year as UTSA broke the school record. The Roadrunners fanned 519 batters, shattering the old record of 454. The Roadrunners also set a record for most RBI in a single season and most times being hit by a pitch with 89.
This past year's success came after two COVID-impacted seasons. With a complete spring schedule, Hallmark was able to take the Roadrunners to one of their best seasons in school history.
